Wheelman is a driving game developed by Midway Studios Newcastle and published by Ubisoft and Midway Games for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.

Gameplay

The game is set in an open ended world modeled after Barcelona, full of destructable objects, alleyways, shortcuts through office blocks and a total of 31 story missions and 105 side missions. While most missions are driving-oriented there are also foot missions which are played from a third person and incorporated a crouching system similar to the one used in Goldeneye.

Among the vehicles used by Milo Burik in the game is the Pontiac G8,[2] shown in released trailers for Wheelman. Reports[3] also indicate that the Opel Astra will be a drivable vehicle. In the demo, his license plate says MRTL KM8T which is a reference to Mortal Kombat

The protagonist, Milo Burik (a digitized Vin Diesel), is a driver who comes out of his retirement to save a woman from his past which leads him to Barcelona, Spain, and right into the middle of a gang war.[4]

The video game Wheelman was first announced in February 2006 by publisher Midway Games as the second of three titles in a joint collaboration between Midway and MTV Networks.[5] Midway Games collaborated with Tigon Studios to design the game.[4] After multiple delays over the course of around 3 years, Wheelman was finally released in many "major territories" including America, Australia and the biggest European countries on March 24, and on a worldwide span on March 27. The game is published, as well as co-developed, by Ubisoft.

Simultaneously with the announcement of the video game in February 2006, a film adaptation was announced with Vin Diesel in the lead role and Rich Wilkes, who worked with Diesel on xXx (2002), was hired to write the script. Paramount Pictures and MTV Films were announced to collaborate on the project.[5] Production of the film, with no script written yet, was estimated to be 18 months away from February 2006.[6] The film will be a sequel to the video game, which will establish the background. The movie is set to be released in 2009 alongside the game.[7]

The game has receieved mixed reviews, many of the reviewers critisizing the game for falling short of story mode and lacking any sort of multiplayer optionality whatsoever. IGN's Greg Miler gave the game a 4.9/10, which by the site's rating scale is translated as "poor", stating that he was hoping for the game to be "to be a guilty pleasure, like 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, but it's just guilty of being a poor game."[8] Gamepro, however, gave the game a high 4/5, calling the game "a GTA-meets-Burnout romp."[9] Gamespot gave the game a 6/10 saying "Wheelman offers plenty of movie-style thrills, although it's hamstrung by terrible on-foot gameplay.[10]

Trong vai Burik, người chơi cần lấy lòng tin từ các băng nhóm để có thể xâm nhập vào hàng ngũ của chúng, nhận nhiệm vụ và làm theo cách của mình, từ đó làm cho xung đột giữa 3 băng nhóm lớn này ngày càng tăng lên. Lợi dụng cơ hội đó, Milo có thể điều tra và tiêu diệt dần dần.



Bước vào game người chơi sẽ trải qua các màn hướng dẫn để làm quen với các thành phần cũng như cơ chế điều khiển trong Wheelman. Nhiệm vụ đầu tiên sẽ là đánh cướp 3 chiếc xe cùng một lúc cho một người bạn của Milo trong một khoảng thời gian xác định. Làm thế nào có thể thực hiện được điều đó? Thật ra đây mà một nhiệm vụ mang tính chất hướng dẫn người chơi các động tác cơ bản để điều khiển xe cũng như làm sao Milo có thể nhảy từ chiếc xe này sang chiếc xe khác. Chỉ cần 2 động tác đơn giản, cho xe tiến sát phía xe chiếc xe cần lấy và bấm nút kích hoạt theo chỉ dẫn là Milo có thể nhảy vào chiếc xe đó như là một bộ phim hành động (chức năng Air Jacking).



Ngoài ra chức năng làm chậm thời gian (Slow down time) và chức năng xoay vòng xe sẽ cho phép bạn cắt đuôi và tấn công các đối tượng đang đeo bám đằng sau Milo. Một điểm đặc biệt khác là Milo có thể vừa lái xe một tay còn tay kia cầm súng để tấn công. Có rất nhiều cách có thể thoát ra các cuộc truy đuổi một cách an toàn. Milo hoàn toàn có thể nhảy qua xe đối tượng truy đuổi để cướp xe, hoặc trên đường sẽ được bố trí các vật cản, Milo có thể làm sập hay phá hủy các vật cản đó để tiêu diệt đối phương, ngoài ra chức năng tăng tốc (booster) cũng là một lợi thế để cắt đuôi.



Tất cả các loại xe trong Wheelman đều có những đặc trưng rất riêng, từ những chiếc thể thao (Sport) có công suất lớn và di chuyển cực nhanh đến những chiếc xe cơ bắp (Muscle) chịu va đập rất tốt, bên cạnh đó còn có xe tải (Truck) và mô tô, từng loại xe sẽ phù hợp với các nhiệm vụ mà Milo thực hiện. Nếu nghĩ súng ống là thứ vũ khí duy nhất trong Wheelman thì bạn đã lầm. Phương tiện di chuyển mới chính là thứ vũ khí lợi hại nhất. Như chiếc xe tải chở xăng chẳng hạn, toàn bộ thùng xăng sẽ là thuốc nổ di động, chọn đúng thời điểm là việc duy nhất mà bạn phải làm để đẩy cả khối thuốc nổ này vào các đối tượng đang truy đuổi.




Hợp đồng và chạy trốn về bản chất có thể là hai mặt của một đồng tiền, đó cũng là bản chất của Wheelman. Ở những bản hợp đồng, Milo chỉ việc rượt đuổi và tiêu diệt các mục tiêu trước khi chúng vào được nơi an toàn. Hầu hết các nhiệm vụ trong game đều gắn liền với các màn rượt đuổi trên đường phố.



Các pha hành động trong Wheelman thể hiện rất đậm chất Hollywood. Các màn rượt đuổi, va chạm, các hiệu ứng cháy nổ rất thật. Chắc chắn bạn không tài nào thực hiện xong một nhiệm vụ mà không dùng đến chiếc xe thứ hai, vì chiếc trước đó đã bị vò như một tổ ong với những vết đạn chưa kể các hỏng hóc vật lý được mô phỏng rất hoàn chỉnh. Thật sự là thiếu sót nếu không đề cập đến nhân vật chính Milo Burik do nam ngôi sao cơ bắp của Hollywood là Vin Diesel thủ vai. Thành công của Vin trong The Chronicles of Rid****: Escape From Butcher Bay ra đời vào năm 2004 được xem như một hiện tượng của làng game bấy giờ là minh chứng rõ nét nhất để có thể lặp lại hoặc làm tốt hơn trong Wheelman.

The games mix elements of adventure and puzzle gaming. In essence, the player must find the solution to each level, in order to progress to the next. An original aspect of the series is that the player usually controls multiple goblins as player characters, each of whom has a unique set of abilities (the number of letter it's in the word «Goblin» of the title indicates the number of characters that the player may control).

Nhận xét của riêng mình là trò chơi đáng chơi hơn hẳn so với Diablo, hay thậm chí là DungeonSiege 2. Mặc dù chỉ là 2D, nhưng đồ hoạ cực kỳ bắt mắt, nhân vật lại được thiết kế hết sức trau chuốt ở dạng 3D, cực kỳ trau chuốt. Ngoài ra, các hiệu ứng phép thuật, bóng nước, cực kỳ đẹp, đẹp đến ngạc nhiên.
Âm thanh trong game, ngay từ phút đầu tiên, đã là thế mạnh của game, từng bản nhạc nền du dương khi bạn ở nông thôn, hay tiếng nhạc xập xình, tiếng lào xào của "dân nhậu", đều khiến bạn tán thưởng. Đặc biệt, trong game còn có ngày và đêm với từng loại âm thanh riêng biệt.
Giọng nói các nhân vật thì hết sức đặc biệt. Mình thích chơi pháp sư nữ, vì đặc biệt thích chất giọng dịu dàng đó.
Nếu đồ hoạ và âm thanh có thể cho trên 8 điểm, chắc chắn gameplay của Divine Divinity phải đạt 9 đỉểm. Người chơi sẽ phiêu lưu qua rất nhiều vùng đất. Sẽ gặp rất nhiều nhân vật. Đặc biệt, khi bạn làm việc thiện, tiếng tăm của bạn lan xa, sẽ có rất nhiều nhân vật đến tiếp xúc với bạn. Còn nếu trở thành sát thủ hay 1 trộm cắp, bạn rất có thể trở thành mục tiêu tiêu diệt của các vệ binh, hay những tập đoàn sát thủ trong game.
Còn rất nhiều bất ngờ đợi bạn khám phá. Còn chờ gì nữa, hãy cùng mình khám phá thế giới Divinity nào!.

Stranglehold takes place many years after Hard Boiled, though Yun-Fat's Inspector Tequila doesn't seem to have lost a step. He's still a rogue cop on the Hong Kong police force, and when a member of the force turns up dead, evidently offed by one of HK's major gangs, Tequila steps up to deal with the situation.
What follows is a sometimes confusing and ham-fisted story of gangs double- and triple-crossing one another. Somewhere in there, Tequila's former girlfriend and daughter both end up being held hostage by one of the gangs. It's a decent crime tale that's certainly better than much of John Woo's American work (though exactly how involved Woo was in this game's production is debatable), but there is still something about the whole story that feels very Hollywood.
It lacks the gritty feel of the original flick, and a lot of the film's cool factor to boot. Nevertheless, the plot serves as an OK-enough motivation to get Tequila back in action and shooting people in the face--and really, that's pretty much all you need.



You will shoot a lot of people in Stranglehold. This game's body count is pretty staggering for a game that runs only about six or seven hours. Enemies come flying out of every nook and cranny of each stage, and always with guns blazing. Fortunately, they don't have the ability to jump and dive around in bullet time like our man Tequila. Though the game refers to it as "Tequila time," this is really just the bullet-time mechanic from Max Payne given a fancy makeover. The one trick is that you won't ever go into bullet-time automatically as a result of diving around, unless you specifically have an enemy in your targeting reticle sights. There is also a specific button that puts you into bullet-time completely separate from the shoot dodging, though it's rare when you ever need to use it.
